Dr. Wamey, is the founder and current president and CEO of Nascent Solutions. Doc, as she is fondly referred to by her colleagues, started Nascent 14 years ago with the goal of empowering the vulnerable. With her leadership, Nascent has partnered with several organizations including USDA, USAID, DOD, her co-parishioners at the Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA, and Books for Africa, to bring positive and sustainable change in the fields of Education, Nutrition, and Agriculture, to rural Africa. Doc holds two Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees, one in Education/ Instructional Technology and another in Instructional Systems Technology, both from Indiana University, Bloomington. She is fluent in English, French, Oku, Lamnso, Noni, and Pidgin. Doc enjoys a good game of scrabble in her free time and her grandchildren provide the perfect escape from work.
Dr. Lennox A. Graham is an innovative educator and practitioner with extensive experience in the design, delivery, evaluation, and enhancement of effective instructional programs and management assessment models. He is a highly articulate and effective communicator with excellent team building and interpersonal skills; working well with individuals at all levels to accomplish strategic goals. As an Associate Health Manager and Outreach Director, he developed and expanded programs for scientific research; assisted in the education of new doctors in teaching hospitals; developed procedures for quality assurance, patient services, medical treatments, department activities and public relations outreach; and he has also participated in fundraising and community health planning.
As the Program Manager, Francis serves as the principal representative for Nascent’s entire program team and portfolio. Francis oversees a team of technical specialists in HQ as well as Nascent’s country offices. In this capacity, he leads the team on all matters related to program strategy, quality assurance and implementation of Nascent’s multisectoral portfolio. He draws upon 24 years of experience in long-term strategic planning, project cycle and knowledge management, policy development, fundraising, and NGO management. Prior to joining Nascent, Francis served as CEO of the African Institute for Economic and Social Development (Inades-Formation International) where he developed and led innovative approaches to rural development, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and training programs for development workers. He holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Yaounde, Cameroon and is fluent in English and French.
As the Accounting and Finance Manager, Frehiwot handles the daily, monthly, and yearly accounting and finance operations for Nascent. She also oversees monthly reporting and consolidation for the finance teams in the field and provides capacity building trainings. Frehiwot has over 17 years of experience in financial management, reporting, budgeting, capacity building, and donor funds management for NGOs such as World Vision and Orbis International. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Indira Gandhi National Open University in India and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. Frehiwot is fluent in English and Amharic.
As the Staff Accountant, Surabhi supports Nascent’s finance and accounting functions by assisting with audits, donor budget reporting, accounts payable, tax filing and month and year-end close of books. She has over eight years of experience in accounting and finance in both the private and nonprofit sectors. Surabhi holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as well as a Master of Business Administration in finance and accounting from the University of Central Missouri. She is fluent in English, Nepali, Hindi, and Urdu.
As the Human Resources Officer, Sonja oversees processes that support and nurture an environment of best practices within the workplace for Nascent’s HQ office and field offices. She has over 20 years of managerial experience and 10 years of human resources experience for both the private and public sectors, which includes a Fortune 500 client. Sonja holds a degree in paralegal studies from American Institute of Paralegal Studies and is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Wilmington University. In addition, she holds four human resources certifications from Villanova University, including a Master Certificate in Human Resource Management.
